MISSION & VISION
MetaMovements is an entrepreneurial artist collective dedicated to using the arts as a tool for positive transformation of self and community, creating bonds, fostering meaningful relationships and creating lasting social change. Click here to meet the artists.
Inspired by our trips to Cuba, MetaMovements creates inclusive environments for high-quality performing arts programming (workshops, classes, master classes, large community events, fundraisers and gatherings) for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to actively participate in. We specialize in teaching in and performing in various Latin dance styles (Salsa, Casino, Bachata, etc), Hip Hop, Contemporary, Modern, Gymnastics, Folkloric, Theatre and more.
MetaMovements partners with schools, organizations, community centers, libraries and more as we aim to help individuals and communities experience a metamorphosis through artistic expression. MetaMovements promotes arts for social change and community health (like at Salsa in the Park) and we create a feeling of synergy that makes everyone feel like part of the family.
MetaMovements is an offspring of Jam'nastics co-founded in 1990 by Anara Frank (Founder of MetaMovements). Based in Boston, Jam’nastics trained thousands of children, youth, adults and seniors through the New England region in Salsa, Hip Hop, Gymnastics and more. Included in that training were Ana Masacote (co-founder of Masacote Dance Company), Johnny Giraldo & Andrés Giraldo (founders of Salsa y Control), Roberto Figueroa (founder of Rumba y Timbal), Vera Rowe, Loreto Ansaldo & Aparna Das (co-founders of MIT Casino Rueda), Olaf Bleck (director of salsaboston.com), and Jeff Robinson (coordinator of the Havana Club socials).
Having taught salsa in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, Anara is internationally recognized for her vast repertoire of salsa drills; innovations in choreography and a gifted sense of physical movement that fuels her ability to help dancers of every level achieve their goals. In 2006, Anara evolved her career under a new company, MetaMovements Latin Dance Company.
Much of the work by MetaMovements Latin Dance Company is inspired by Anara’s trips to Cuba for over 20 years. Thanks to long term relationships with family, friends and organizations in Cuba and the U.S., Anara has been successful in consulting in the design of legal “people-to-people exchanges” and licensed research programs for individuals to conduct research in dance and community arts programs in Cuba as well as help travelers experience the rich history of the island and immerse themselves in the beauty of Cuban music, dance, and art...all while building meaningful connections to the Cuban people. Additionally she has designed cultural exchanges for Cuban artists in the United States.
In 2013, MetaMovements Latin Dance Company shifted its focus to being a collective of artists inspired to establish their careers within the Arts. MetaMovements artists aim to provide accessible opportunities to enjoy and partake in the discovery and expression of one's artistic self.To view more information on some of our current MetaMovements artists. In 2014, MetaMovements earned its license to bring travelers to Cuba!
